 July   WEDNESDAY WRITING CLASSES

July 2: Topic: Writer in Residence – Application writing: Tutor: Kathleen Knight:

This workshop is to help you complete an application for a writer-in-residence placement. Learn how to determine what they require, what is required of you, and how to persuade them that you are the best candidate. Don’t miss out on those opportunities to focus on your writing in a quiet, supportive, and creative environment.

July 9: Topic: Questioning my writing   Tutor: Kathleen Knight

Learn how to critique your prose and/or poetry. Join the friendly discussions, and use the option to pre-submit 700 words of prose, or one page of poetry, for a personal assessment by the tutor.

July 16: Topic: Children’s book conventions Tutor: Kathleen Knight

Learn the conventions for writing picture, junior fiction (chapter), and young adult books. Discuss aspects like characterisation, language, and market research with other writers. Come along and ensure you’re writing for your target audience and pleasing the publisher.

July 23: Topic: Creative Fiction: Tutor: Lyn Bodycoat:

Lyn will discuss how characters and the setting are created in written texts. Other elements of fiction writing, such as imagery and structure, will be discussed too. Lyn will use a range of texts to provide examples of fiction and
nonfiction writing. Attendees will be able to access information pertaining to their own writing, at whatever stage, their work is currently placed.
